Afternoon Tea At Greens, West Didsbury //Didsbury//

May 4, 2016

The tradition of Afternoon Tea is very definitely being revived and on Bank Holiday Monday – a damp & cold one at that – we cheered ourselved with a mini-Downtown experience at Greens Restaurant. We knew that it would be good – the combination of the Greens approach to cuisine and the pairing up they’ve done with our lovely We Are Life Design clients, Pebble in the Pond, who provide the gorgeous china and crockery. A winning combination.

The thing we love about Greens, is that there is always a twist on whatever they do – and this time, we were presented with our tea/cocktail menu on original copies of The Beano. A genius idea – and certainly well received by a number of the male afternoon-tea-ers, who may have been gently co-erced into attending 😉 Lots of reliving of childhoods going on, which was lovely to see…

Staff completely entered into the spirit of the afternoon, looking very resplendent in their garden party frocks. The restaurant too was bedecked with bunting, giving Greens a very different vintagey feel to normal. Beautiful matched – but mis-matched, if you know what I mean – crockery and pretty flowers added to the ambience. Prosecco cocktails were a delightful addition – the Elderflower, Cucumber & Lime was much enjoyed, but I thought my Pear, Cinnamon & Ginger was the winner…

Our three tiered cake stand was packed with afternoon tea goodies. The top tier held the savoury delights – mini quiches, veggie scotch eggs and mini bruschetta type treats with the most delicious topping. (I think a tomato, feta & mint but could be wrong – whatever it was, it was just divine). The middle tier held the sandwiches – cheese & pickle, egg mayo & cucumber. Proper afternoon tea types with crusts cut off. The lower tier was full of sweet treats – two proper fluffy fruit scones (the type your grandma used to make) with clotted cream and strawberry jam and also two fruit flans. Have to say, we were so full by the time we reached this layer, I was struggling 😉 Tea was replenished when necessary, too.

The next Afternoon Tea event is on Monday 30th May and we can’t recommend highly enough that you make a booking – by the time we left all tables were full, so there’s certainly a demand for Afternoon Tea!
